MedBank Provides Prescriptions to Uninsured For Five Years
Submitted by Bethany Mowry on April 30, 2008 - 4:22pm. News | Health | Whitfield County NewsThe Whitfield County Health Department's MedBank prescription services hits a milestone May 1.
The service agency will celebrate five years helping residents without prescription drug coverage get the medicines they need.
Director Susan Relaford works as a liason between drug companies and the uninsured.
She says many MedBank patients would have to choose between prescriptions and other necessities if they did not get help from the agency.
Relaford recalls one patient's excitement: "She said, I feel like I've won the drug lottery, and so if you start tallying up, unfortunately for those of us who are hitting 40 and above, we're looking at some cholesterol, high blood pressure."
The agency has distributed 13 million dollars in free medications.
