I was in the same situation and called the IRS. Found out I would get a rebate check for an amount smaller than the maximum based on the first filing by direct deposit. In my case the amended return will mean a maximum $1200 rebate so I will receive the difference in a second check by hardcopy since my amended return was filed manually (as is required). At least said the IRS representative I talked to that day.
