Yes, Die Hard Falcons Fans, We Will Carry the Season Opener Here on WDEF

We got a concerned e-mail this week from Scott Smith and the Sports & Events Committee.

It read...

Rumor has it that you (WDEF) are not showing the Falcons/Dolphins game on Sunday but instead the Colts game.  Please tell me this isn’t true.  There are almost as many Falcons fans here as Titans fans and this is a great team against another playoff team.  Since Titans are Thursday night I never dreamed you wouldn’t choose the Falcons game.  Please change your decision.  Can we expect the same thing on Dec. 27 against Buffalo(Titans play on Friday)?  Thanks

Die-Hard Falcons  Fan,

Scott

Scott wasn't off his rocker.. this was more than just a rumor.

CBS had scheduled all of Tennessee to get the Colts game this week (since we don't have a Titans game & Tennessee loves Peyton Manning).

But we've managed to do some negotiating with the network and can now announce that we will air the Falcons game here on WDEF, News 12 at 1:00 PM, after all.

It's not as easy switching these games as you may think.  The network doesn't take individual requests from every station in the country on a weekly basis... whether it's the NFL.. March Madness or college football.

That was the case last week, when CBS chose to gives us U.S. open coverage over college football, even though tennis is far less popular down south than football.

And while we're on the subject, brace yourself for Black Out restrictions this year.  The NFL is playing hardball with TV and their fans.  Several teams are struggling to sell tickets this year because of the economy, but the NFL is not easing black out rules.

That means if the Titans don't sell out, you won't see them on TV here.  Luckily, the NFL no longer considers us a home market for Falcons games.

Yea Falcons.

Yea Falcons.

Falcons games

I have always appreciated the Fox network showing the Falcons each Sunday they have the game and have never appreciated CBS' stance. Thank you Direct TV for the free NFL Network this week.

To all Falcons fans, keep complaining. Maybe CBS will hear our cries.

Mr. Crump

I repeat, we ARE showing the Falcons game this week.

Fox shows the Falcons games normally because they have the NFC package.

CBS shows the Titans regularly because we have the AFC package.

That's the contract.  It isn't a matter of liking one team over the other.

I agree with Scott that

I agree with Scott that there are still plenty of Falcons fans in Chattanooga. As someone that grew up here in the 70's and 80's, the Falcons were my NFL team as a child and still are my NFL team as an adult. I'm okay with watching the Titans, but when it comes to who I'd rather watch, give me the Falcons every time.

I fully understand Scott's

I fully understand Scott's concern. The Chattanooga media ignores Georgia sports and Georgia state news all the way around. You see it in sports, county election coverage and statewide news-both television and the newspapers. When someone like Scott raises the issue, then here comes the usual brush-off or excuse why it was someone else's fault. If I could get the Atlanta networks again, I would leave the Chattanooga media without a second thought.

Im so glad you guys changed

Im so glad you guys changed youre mind.Ive been sending you guys emails for the last 3 years because yall chose to show the Titans over the Falcons.I think it was 3 years ago when the one game I looked forward to the most(falcons vs Patriots) you guys showed another game instead.Glad to see you guys are finally hearing us.Props to WDEF!!
