Part two of our look at free things you can do this weekend leads us to the Smithsonian's annual Museum Day.  This is an event I take part in every year.  Why?  Because a family of 4 can save upwards of $60!

Every year, the Smithsonian offers an encouragement to the public to visit a museum.  If you visit Washington, D.C. that's easy, since the Smithsonian facilities are free.  So, in the spirit of spreading access, Smithsonian affililiates offer free admission, with a special card, once a year.

Here's what you do, follow this link and fill out the form to receive a printable admission card for two people.  If you're family is bigger, have your wife or husband also fill it out.  Take the admission card with you to a participating museum, go to the ticket counter, and viola, you're in for FREE!

Last year, my family visited the U.S. Space & Rocket Museum in Huntsville, AL.  It was a great day trip, with a stop in Scottsboro to hit Unclaimed Baggage.  This year, we may go to High Museum in Atlanta or the American Museum of Energy and Science in Oak Ridge, or somewhere else.  You can find a complete list of participating museum's here.

Just remember to print out the admission card and take it with you.  A simple step, but it's a must.  You can't just show up Saturday and ask for free admission.

Enjoy!

P.S. Thanks to whoever asked the YMCA to turn one of the TV's to WDEF News 12.  I noticed while taking advantage of free Y week, which continues for a couple more days.
