7/3/08 Firework Forecast

Brian Smith's picture

All week long we have been watching a cold front sag southward towards the TN Valley and boy is it taking it’s sweet time. This front has led to flooding rains and severe storms from Missouri to the Ohio Valley.

Locally, the weather has been fabulous, huh? 50s in the morning is a treat this time of the year! That will change and it could not come at a worse time. Rain and storms are likely over one of the biggest weekends of the year.

Note below the good news for Tonight-Dry and comfortable. That changes for the 4th.

Friday-Models are pushing the aforementioned front to the south while an area low pressure develops along it to the west. This low will help force the front closer tomorrow and provide the area with storms, especially on Saturday. For tomorrow, I look for storms to develop in the afternoon, but mainly to the northwest of Chattanooga. Moisture in the air will continue to rise for the 4th, but we might be just a tad to dry for widespread storms. Highs will be in the upper 80s.

Friday Night-If storms do develop; most will fall apart by the evening, leaving several of us dry, however a few could hold on. As the front moves closer and possibly to the south, scattered showers could continue for some into the night and overnight.

Saturday-It will rain...again. I still think the showers and storms will be scattered, but this is the could be our best chance to see rain area wide. Some will receive well over and inch of rain, others much less due to the scattered nature of the storms. This is due to the front “hanging” around and disturbances moving along it. Some of the showers will last well into the evening. I don’t expect severe weather with cloud cover in place, which will limit the heat(energy) needed for strong storms.

I am filling in for Luther this week, so please watch over your dogs while fireworks explode in your neighborhood. The week after is one of his busiest weeks trying to find lost dogs! And I get to do it again next week for him!

See you soon,

Brian

Hope you're doing well
