Dramatic video surfaced yesterday from a bank surveillance camera at First State Bank in Parkersburg, IA where an EF 5 tornado hit last week. The bank took a direct hit from the tornado, which completely destroyed the building with winds of 205mph. The video is from several different angles.

Here is the video.

For the month of May, there have been 547 reports of tornadoes, far exceeding the 3 year average of 171. So far this year, 111 people have died from tornado related deaths. More tornadoes are possible today in the upper Midwest and Ohio Valley.

Scientist from an article in Time Magazine try to explain why so many and it’s not global warming.

“Global warming cannot really explain what is happening, Carbin said. While higher temperatures could increase the number of thunderstorms, which are needed to trigger tornadoes, they also would tend to push the storm systems too far north to form some twisters, he said. “

SIX DOLLAR GAS??? How can this be? Well as you may have heard already, our hurricane season has started as of June 1st. In fact we saw our first named storm over the weekend, named Authur. Authur weakened Sunday as it meandered over Central America.

While this year’s season could be above average, it can only take one hurricane to make gas prices reach 6 bucks according to a report from CNNmoney.com.  Peter Beutel, oil analyst at Cameron Hanover Beutel, said if a Katrina-like hurricane were to hit in July, gas prices could go as high as $5 or even $6."The last thing this market needs at this time is a hurricane, because we can't afford to lose any of our refining capacity at this point," said Beutel. "If anything bullish happens with the market in this state, it would make it go absolutely crazy."

But we all know that if a storm were to develop more than likely the price of oil/gas will rise based on fears alone. Lets hope neither happen. I put $62 in my jeep yesterday and nearly cried. I made have to trade in my dream car soon…ugh.

See you soon,

Brian
