Enjoy the rest of today, because we have a very active and very wet pattern setting up.
In the short term: High pressure has shunted most of the cloud cover to the west over the last couple of days, but look for the clouds to thicken this afternoon. At the same time, a cold front will approach the MS River with intense thunderstorms with the aid of a developing low out of New Mexico. These storms will move into more stable atmosphere locally during the morning on Wednesday.
Wednesday afternoon and night, we should see a break in the action as a cold front pushes to the south of the viewing area. But by Thursday morning, disturbances along the existing front will provide another round of rain. The existing cold front will return as a warm front and lift north. A few storms could develop and some could be strong. Look for a break in action Thursday afternoon and evening. Noted below is the DAY 3 Severe Weather outlook from the SPC.
Oh but another disturbance will race NE on Friday morning, however at this point, severe weather in not likely with just showers. This activity should be gone by Friday afternoon as we warm up. At the same time a powerful cold front with plenty of wind energy will push east late Friday and into our area during the morning hours on Saturday. This might be our best chance for strong storms, noted in the Storm Prediction 4 day outlooks, however the best chance will be west.
Rain should end by Saturday afternoon, but not without leaving 2-4” of rain and a potential for some minor flooding. Note below what the HPC is predicting over a 5 day period! WOW almost 4-5”. We’ll see.
See you soon,
Brian
