Captain Peter Ahching tells News 12 that 300 soldiers from the Atlanta recruiting Battalion will be here Friday for a leadership conference and the change of command ceremony. He was in charge of the Chattanooga Army Recruiting company during the July 16th terrorist attack. Now, he will be handing off leadership of the unit to the incoming commander this Friday.
The Captain says the Army now has sign on bonuses of anywhere from twenty thousand, to forty thousand dollars for specific specialties. He also says the recruiting unit has made great strides since the attacks.
“Since July 16, 2015 shootings, Chattanooga was at the bottom in terms of recruitment in the Southeast United States, and uh, twelve months after the terrorist attack we, we finished at top 8 out of forty-six cities involved with uh, recruiting in Southeast America.” said Captain Peter Ahching.
He will be headed to Augusta State University’s Military Science dept.
