CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – Kids across the Tennessee Valley spent part of their day listening, and learning.

It’s National Read Across America Day.

A number of guests came to Spring Creek Elementary to celebrate the event.

March 2nd marks the birthday of Dr. Seuss!

In honor of the late children’s author, everyone is encouraged to read and to celebrate the written word on this day.

Tracy Tucker is the Interim Librarian at Spring Creek Elementary School.

She enjoys Read Across America Day.

“The adults… we get to bond with kids and you get to learn what they like; the things that they enjoy. And you get to see them smile. All these things are funny. They live to laugh and have a good time.”

The National Education Association started the event in 1997 to encourage reading awareness.
