DAYTON, Tenn. (WDEF) – A student from Dayton City School is getting national recognition, and a shot at 80,000 dollars in grants and scholarships.
Sophia Hicks is the only winner in the state for the Doodle 4 Google art contest.
Doodle 4 Google is an annual contest open to students in grades K through 12.
Students are invited to create their own doodle for the chance to have it featured on the Google homepage.
Sophia Hicks is concerned with homelessness, and spelled the word “google” on her project.
The 3rd grader now competes against winners across the country to select a national finalist.
That person will will 80-thousand dollars in grants and scholarships.
Online voting will be open after 8 p.m. from February 23, 2017 to March 6, 2017.
