MOSCOW (WDEF) – We continue our look back 25 years ago to a series we ran on our trip to Moscow in the winter of 1992.
Here is a look at why we sent a crew to Russia.
In the winter of 92, Russia was coping with harsh realities from switching to a free market economy.
There were food shortages and runaway inflation.
To see how bad conditions were, went tagged along with a Moscow mom who tries to find food for her family.
A few weeks later, our mom’s husband would return the visit to Chattanooga.
Vadim got a chance to visit grocery stores here, and it was an emotional experience considering what his wife goes through back home.
Conditions would get better for the family.
Vadim and Svetlana are now grandparents, still living in Moscow.
But Vadim works for the government and they have been VERY upwardly mobile in the new, capitalistic Russia.
