CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF)- One local high school teacher is known for working more than just eight hours a day.
He puts in nights and weekends to make sure his students are prepared to achieve.
“Mr. Horne on behalf of food city and news 12 Now, I would like to present you this weeks Golden Apple teacher award. How about a round of applause,” said Tammy Helton as the kids applauded watching Rainey Horne receive the Golden Apple Award.
“I can tell you over and over how he gives of himself outside of school. And goes above and beyond to find jobs for kids. He’s paid kids bills. He buys clothes for kids. He’s fed kids. He’s still feeding kids.”
“My kids really are my life. I want them to be the best that they can be. And I am definitely not one of the better teachers here. It’s just I care,” says Rainey Horton, “But it’s all about the kids. We have an engine building team. We’ve been doing it for seven years. We’ve been to the nationals every year. And I do that for no money.”
“He’s nice and he’s outgoing. And he wants to help all the kids no matter what.”
“He’s a very good hearted person. He’s a great teacher. He’s very caring. And just wants everybody to be great in life.”
“That’s what it’s all about right? I left industry to come here. I had my own business. I did not have to come to take this job. I wanted to make a difference in peoples lives. And I am not easy because I know how hard life is.”
“He gives us a lot of life lessons. And which we can learn a lot. And I’ve been learning them. I give thanks. He’s really a good teacher.”
“Thank you is all I can say. I’m just doing what I’m supposed to be doing,” says Rainey Horne.
