CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – Some young ladies from the Chattanooga Girls Leadership Academy just found out why graduation is such a special time.
They are the first group to ever graduate from the only single gender, public school in the state.
It’s a journey that started back in 2009.
Dr. Elaine Swafford is the Executive Director of CGLA.
“We’re excited to be able to give these girls a graduation that they deserve, and they’ve made it their entire 6th through 12th grade years here at CGLA.”
The college preparation curriculum is centered on Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts, and Mathematics.
Keosha Cross is one of the students graduating this year.
“The homework was outrageous, like 60 problems a night, plus other classes. What are you thinking? But, I made it.”
The staff and administration are excited to produce strong, successful young women as graduates, and they hope they will go back and contribute to the community.
